WHAT THIS SEASON MEANS TO ME
Family, love, memories, laughter, children, stockings, new pajamas, joy, busy, loud, conversation, song, music, scents, turkey, stuffing, gravy, potatoes, squash, desserts, gifts, tree, decorations, photographs, lights, friends.
A time to reflect and smile when you think of the good times past and to look forward to times ahead. Falling tears for those who are no longer with us but a love so strong that their memory lives on in our hearts. For those family and friends that are at a distance, may they find peace, joy and happiness at this time of year. May they know that they are thought of and wished all the very best.
Many have a tough time at this time of year. There are many opportunities to lend our support. Some Community Organizations like Barrie Christmas Cheer, Salvation Army and the Barrie Food Bank are some of the places that we can volunteer or offer a donation. Rainbows for all Children Canada is another great charity. They help children and teens grieve and grow after a loss. Holidays can be a difficult time for families who are suffering from a loss. Please do what you can.
For people who cannot get out in the cold or are too busy to be shopping as healthy as they'd like to, Organics Live Barrie & Make Good Choices have a special offer for all of you. Visit their website and enter in promo code makegoodchoices to receive 10% off your first order.
While you are preparing those festive meals, listening to Christmas Carols during the season can bring so much warmth and wonderful memories.
How many of you just love Christmas Carols? Feel free to post your favourites on my Facebook page. I would love to know.
My favourite Christmas song is "White Christmas" Here are the lyrics and also a link to the classic sung by Bing Crosby.

GREAT TIPS FOR THE SEASON
Live Life Awake - Michael White
The holidays may be the most stressful time of the year. The expectation and pressure that gift giving, travel and family brings upon us can be overwhelming.
We also tend to reflect on our past more than usual during the holidays and with that comes the self assessment; sometimes joy and pride in a great year, and many times discouragement and self battering from a not so wonderful past 12 months.
Either way you look at it, I encourage you to remember one thing:
What happened before cannot be changed in any way, and good or bad it is what it is.
So my tip over the holidays is to be present in the moment you are in right now and remember everything that has happened before has been there to help you grow. And the only thing you can possible change or affect is the present now.
When you look at it this way your future looks bright, your opportunities are endless, your dreams are attainable and anything you desire is yours for the taking.
Regardless of your past, you get to decide your future, nobody else. You are in control and no one knows what you're thinking, nor can they change your thoughts (unless you let them).
So love yourself, be grateful for what you have and where you are and understand that it's all up to you, you create your own reality, you decide and you deserve.
Be awesome!
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to everyone.

Quick Seasonal Tip for those who have a loved one dealing with dementia
The holiday season is a time when family gathers and emotions are often high. If you have a loved one that has been diagnosed with some form of dementia especially Alzheimers this time of the year can be very stressful and emotional for them. Speaking from experience what I found works best is educating other family memebers of the situation and how to deal with the person suffering with the disease. Make sure everyone knows that it may take the person with the disease a little more time to process conversation and that their conversation may be repetitive and they may even forget simple things such as a family memebers name. Changes in behaviour are due to the disease and family and friends need to understand that it is the disease changing the behaviour not the person. Family and friends can help with communication by being patient, not interrupting or correcting, and giving the person time to finish his or her thoughts.

Here are a few tips on how to Make Good Choices and
Survive the Holidays.
1. Don’t try to diet over the festive period. Have the freedom
to enjoy yourself without the feelings of deprivation
or the pressure to rebel.
2. Normal routine tends to go out of the window over
Christmas. Make sure you don’t forget about yourself and
still take the time to plan your food.
3. Make the effort to continue with your exercise program.
4. Don’t go to a party hungry. If you do, you will be fighting
your body’s urges for sugar.
5. Watch your portion sizes – particularly fast release carbohydrates
and fats.
6. Take low GL dishes with you to parties. See your Holistic
Nutritionist for more details....More
