Branch Services

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is available for free throughout our buildings.  There is no password – just connect to the Barrie Public Library network and accept the user agreement.

Computers

Computers at both branches are available to library cardholders to use for up to 180 minutes each day. If you are not eligible for a library card, you may ask for an Internet Only Card at the service desk.  All users must agree to the terms of our Public Internet and Computer Use Policy.

Our public computers have Microsoft Word, Publisher and Excel.

Photocopying and printing

Photocopying (colour and black & white) and printing (black & white only) is available at both branches for 25 cents per sheet. Scanning to email is also available.

We do not offer fax services.

Silent Study Rooms

Bring your project or study materials and use our silent study rooms. We ask that you refrain from talking, eating and drinking, or listening to music loudly.

If you are working on a group project, both branches have tables and chairs available throughout the library for you to sit down and work together.

Space is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Room Rental

The Massie Family Program Room at our Painswick Branch is available to rent by the public. The fee is $60 per hour for businesses and $40 per hour for individuals. There is no charge for non-profit organizations. Learn more about room rentals.

Tech Coach

Have a tech question or issue you need help with? Register for a Tech Coach session and a staff member will sit down with you to help answer your questions. Ask a staff member to make an appointment or fill out our Ask a Librarian form.

Café and Book Boutique

Enjoy a beverage or small snack from our Café located at our Downtown Branch located in the lobby. This is also where you’ll find our used books for sale for $0.50 each.

Looking to donate books? Please read our book donation guidelines.

Visiting Library Service

This free service is available to anyone in Barrie or Oro-Medonte unable to visit the library in person. Staff will help you make great selections, and our volunteers will deliver the library materials right to your home. Learn more about Visiting Library Service.

Library Tours

Library tours are available to schools, community groups, and the general public. Tours provide an overview of our services, resources, programs, and facilities, and can be customized to meet the needs of your group. Tours are generally 45 minutes in length and are also available in French.

To book a tour, visit us in person or call us at 705-728-1010. Dial extension 2811 to book a children's tour or extension 2810 for adults. Please call at least one month before you’d like to have the tour.

For those who are eligible for membership but do not already have a card, we can have cards prepared. Have each person complete our Patron Registration Form and bring them in at least one week prior to your tour - we’ll have library cards ready to go.
