If your house was built in the 50' or 60's your sewer main to the street could be made of "no-corrode/black" or Orangeburg pipe. This is cardboard/tar pipe manufactured after the war when there was no plastic or metal to be had and the housing demand was extremely high. This pipe is now disintegrating and sewage could be leaching into your soil. You would notice slow drains. A simple camera inspection of your drain will determine the condition of your sewer main.
