Dentistry While You Sleep

Dentistry Asleep

Laughing Gas

Laughing gas, which is also referred to as inhalation sedation or relative analgesia, is when nitrous oxide (N2O) is administered to the patient in order to remove pain and induce a pleasurable sensation for the duration of any dental operation.  With this type of sedation, one can expect to feel a tingling sensation, feelings of euphoria, floating, or even sleepiness. Laughing gas takes effect within about 2-3 minutes, and has no negative after effects.  Within 3-5 minutes of discontinuing inhalation the patient returns to normal and can safely drive home.

Sleeping Sedation

Do you experience the following?

  • Fear of dental treatment
  • Difficulty getting "numb"
  • History of traumatic dental experiences
  • Sensitive gag reflex
  • A need for oral surgery: Wisdom teeth extractions
  • Above average fear for "getting numb"
  • Lack of professional dental care for many years or
    decades
  • Embarrassment about your teeth

If you answered yes to any of the above, then you may be a
candidate for IV sedation.

How Sedation Works

With safe and proven techniques, patients receive sedative drugs through an
IV which work rapidly to create a relaxed state that is maintained and
monitored through out treatment. Though the patient is not fully "asleep",
he or she will be blissfully unaware of the sights and sounds of the
procedure taking place. This will allow the dental team to complete
multiple procedures in one appointment. Patients should arrange for a
friend or relative to provide transportation to and from dental office and
stay with them for the rest of the day.

Sedation Facts

  • It really works! You will be able to relax through your dental appointment
  • You will have little or no memory of the experience
  • You won't remember any sounds or smells

DON'T LET FEAR GET IN THE WAY OF YOUR ORAL HEALTH!
