The Challenge of an Aging Population

In the 2001 Census, Barrie and area had a population of 18,000 people aged 55 and above. At the present time Community Care Access Centre in Simcoe County has over 1400 seniors on the waiting list for long term care. 525 of those are waiting for accommodation within their community; A trend that will challenge local health services, families and the community at large for years to come.

Unfortunately to date, some of these individuals are placed in other communities at a distance from the love and support provided by their families. Seniors suffering from multiple physical ailments are now burdened with the loss of emotional support as well.
